With the arrival of winter, the Devottor Bazar in Atgharia Upazila, Pabna, has come alive with the enchanting seasonal gathering of sparrows. Every evening, thousands of these tiny birds fill the sky with cheerful chirping, creating a spectacular natural spectacle.
The sparrows perch on electric wires, tree branches, and shop canopies, turning the market into a lively hub of nature. Curious visitors flock from near and far to witness this unique scene.
Local residents say that each year, at the beginning of winter, these sparrows mysteriously arrive in large groups at Devottor Bazar. They flutter through the sky, line up on wires, and fill the air with their melodious chirping. This sparrow festival starts around mid-September and continues throughout the winter. Where the birds migrate after winter remains a mystery.
Passersby Abdul Khalek remarked, “It is an incredible display of nature’s beauty. Seeing thousands of sparrows together, flying and perching in unison, is mesmerizing.” Another visitor, Abdul Mannan, added, “Such a scene is rarely seen elsewhere. The entire market comes alive with the birds’ cheerful sounds.”
Local shopkeepers noted that the market atmosphere is transformed by the birds’ presence during this season. Every evening, shoppers and pedestrians pause to enjoy the company of these feathered visitors. Thanks to the awareness and care of the local business community and residents, the sparrows find a safe refuge here, returning to the same spot year after year without being disturbed.
