The Bangladesh Tigers fell 16 runs short in the first T20I against the West Indies in Chattogram on Monday, losing by 149 runs after a dramatic collapse and a spirited lower-order fightback.
Chasing 165 for three, Bangladesh's top order crumbled, losing half their side for just 63 runs. Only opener Tanzid Tamim (15 off 5) showed aggression before a rapid succession of wickets, with key batters like Liton Das and Nurul Hasan Sohan failing.
The lower-order, however, salvaged the innings. Tanzim Hasan Sakib led the charge with a team-high 33 off 27 balls, supported by Nasum Ahmed's brisk 20 off 13. The bottom five batters strikingly contributed 80 runs compared to the top six's 62, illustrating the tail's determined effort. The chase ended in the final over when Taskin Ahmed was unfortunately dismissed hit-wicket.
Earlier, a late flourish powered the West Indies to their total, with Skipper Shai Hope (46 off 28) and Rovman Powell (44 off 28) adding 64 runs in the last five overs. Taskin Ahmed (2/36) was the pick of the Bangladeshi bowlers.
