India secured a comprehensive nine-wicket victory over South Africa in the series decider, successfully chasing down a target of 271 with more than ten overs to spare, thanks to a superb century by Yashasvi Jaiswal and fifties from Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
The victory followed India finally winning the toss for the first time in their last 21 ODIs, a streak broken by KL Rahul's left-handed coin spin.
South Africa's Innings (270 all out): South Africa got off to a slow start, with Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana utilizing the early moisture to take wickets, including Ryan Rickleton's early dismissal. Quinton de Kock revived the innings, targeting the struggling Prasidh Krishna to build a 113-run stand with Temba Bavuma, reaching his seventh century against India (106 off 89 balls).
However, Krishna staged a comeback in his second spell, dismissing Matthew Breetzke and Aiden Markram, and later de Kock. Kuldeep Yadav then ran through the lower middle order, cherishing the dry ball condition, picking up four wickets to restrict South Africa to 270, well short of their earlier target of 350.
India's Chase (271/1): The low target allowed Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal to adopt a measured approach. The openers put up a formidable 155-run stand. Rohit provided crucial support to Jaiswal before falling after reaching his 94th ODI fifty.
Jaiswal, filling in for the injured Shubman Gill, capitalised on the time provided, hitting his maiden ODI hundred, becoming the sixth Indian batter to score centuries in all three formats.Virat Kohli then took over, displaying an aggressive upgrade to his game, scoring an unbeaten 65 off 45 balls, including a series-high 12 sixes, to guide India to a comfortable series win.
