


Bangladeshi expatriates in Japan hosted a civic reception for Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, Leader of the Opposition in Bangladesh’s National Parliament and Ameer of Jamaat-e-Islami, in Tokyo on Monday (May 4).
The event, organised by Islamic Mission Japan, took place at Takenogawa Hall in Kaminakayato at 3:30 pm.
Speaking as chief guest, Rahman reaffirmed his commitment to building a corruption-free, accountable, and humane Bangladesh. He said honouring the sacrifices of martyrs requires establishing integrity in governance.
Referring to key moments in the country’s history, he said people have repeatedly sacrificed their lives for justice and rights, and pledged that his party would continue its efforts both in parliament and on the streets.
He also called for proper recognition of those in the July movement and stressed the need for justice for all .
Thanking expatriates for their support in the 13th National Parliament elections, Rahman said the mandate given to the alliance increases its responsibility. He added that elected representatives would act in the public interest and work against corruption.
Addressing the diaspora, he urged expatriates to improve their skills and knowledge and to send remittances through legal channels to support the economy. He also advised them to respect Japanese laws and pass on positive values to the next generation.
Special guests included Saiful Alam Khan Milon and Mir Ahmad Bin Qasem Arman. Milon said the opposition would continue efforts in parliament to protect expatriate rights, while Arman highlighted the importance of unity among Bangladeshis at home and abroad.
The programme began with a recitation from the Holy Quran. It was chaired by Hafez Maulana Chaber Ahmed, President of Islamic Mission Japan, and conducted by Secretary General Engineer Abdullah Al Maruf. Cultural performances by expatriate children followed, featuring Bengali, Arabic, and Japanese presentations.
