Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Amir Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has warned against any attempt to bring back a “culture of fear” in Bangladesh, saying it will be met with united resistance.
He made the remarks on Saturday afternoon while speaking to the media after exchanging Eid greetings with people from different walks of life at Minto Road in Dhaka.
He said the people of Bangladesh do not want fear and intimidation to return. “If anyone tries to restore that culture, regardless of who they are, we will stand together and resist it,” he said.
On the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, he expressed hope for building a non-discriminatory, humane, and inclusive Bangladesh.
During the event, the opposition leader exchanged greetings with representatives of several countries and international organisations, including the United States, United Kingdom, European Union, China, India, Japan, Saudi Arabia, and others.
Earlier in the day, he offered Eid prayers at the Manipur Girls’ High School ground in Mirpur under his constituency Dhaka-15. After the prayers, he greeted local residents and well-wishers.
