Tarique Rahman Calls Emergency Meeting of BNP Standing Committee

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman has called an emergency meeting of the party’s Standing Committee. The meeting will be held on Friday night at 9:30 pm at the BNP Chairperson’s political office in Gulshan.

The information was confirmed to the media by BNP Standing Committee member Dr. Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain. The meeting will be presided over by Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman.

According to senior party leaders, this is not a scheduled meeting and no specific agenda has been announced. However, the meeting is being considered highly significant, as a decision may be taken to elect Tarique Rahman as the Chairman of the BNP.

Earlier, on January 4, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told journalists in Sylhet that Tarique Rahman would be elected as the party’s Chairman within a few days.

Tarique Rahman was appointed Acting Chairman of the BNP in 2018 after party Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia was imprisoned.

BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia passed away on December 30, leaving the position of party Chairperson vacant.
