The National Citizen Party (NCP) has faced another setback as Monjila Jhuma, a central committee organizer and prominent local leader, announced her withdrawal from the upcoming general election. Jhuma, who was slated to contest from the Khagrachhari constituency, shared her decision via a Facebook post late Sunday night.
Jhuma’s decision comes just before the final deadline for submitting nomination papers. Although her supporters had collected the papers on her behalf on December 24 to run under the party's "Shapla Koli" symbol, she confirmed that she has officially informed NCP Convenor Nahid Islam of her withdrawal.
Jhuma is a practicing lawyer and currently serves as a member of the Khagrachhari District Council. She holds the position of Central Committee Organiser for the southern region within the youth-led NCP.
This move follows a series of high-profile withdrawals within the National Citizen Party. While Jhuma expressed her continued belief that youth leadership will eventually reach parliament, she did not provide specific reasons for her personal exit.
Mohammad Nur Alam, the NCP’s Khagrachhari District Convenor, confirmed the withdrawal and stated that the party would provide a formal media briefing later to clarify the situation.
