Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) organized a rally and procession in Munshiganj's Louhjang upazila on Wednesday to mark the second anniversary of the historic mass uprising also symbolically observed as "July 36".

The local unit of the party arranged the programme to demand the preservation of the uprising's memories and the swift implementation of the proposed "July Charter".

Chaired by local IAB leader Alhaj Maulana Abul Kalam Khan with the gathering featured Maulana Munsur Ahmed Musa and the party's leader for the Munshiganj-2 constituency as the chief guest.

Addressing the rally, Maulana Musa urged the government to establish good governance and ensure an accountable administration to fulfill the public's expectations. He drew a profound connection between the 1971 Liberation War and the 2024 uprising, stating, "We deeply honor the martyrs of 1971. Without their sacrifice, the July uprising would not have been possible. The spirit of 1971 and 2024 are intrinsically linked."

When asked by journalists about the potential return of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Musa remarked, "If she is a citizen of Bangladesh, it is natural for her to return. However, justice for any alleged wrongdoings must be strictly ensured through the legal process."

Following the speeches, the programme concluded with a large celebratory procession. Hundreds of local leaders and activists marched through the upazila also echoing demands for comprehensive state reforms and justice for the July martyrs.
