One Arrested for Beating Journalist in Rajbari

Police have arrested a man for allegedly beating a journalist who was covering a local clash in Rajbari's Pangsha upazila.

The victim, Md. Akash Mahmud, serves as a multimedia correspondent for the national daily Kaler Kantho and is the Rajbari district correspondent for NPB News.

According to the case dossier, an altercation broke out between members of a local voluntary organization and auto-rickshaw drivers at the Moishala bus stand on the evening of July 25. When Akash began recording the ensuing clash on his mobile phone to gather news the several auto-rickshaw drivers attacked him with sticks.

Despite repeatedly identifying himself as a journalist, the attackers beat him indiscriminately and leaving him severely injured.

Following the incident injured journalist filed a formal complaint with the Pangsha Model Police Station on July 26.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Moinul Islam confirmed that police identified and arrested Bishu Sardar after gathering evidence during the preliminary investigation.

"The suspect has been sent to court. Our drives are actively ongoing to identify and apprehend the remaining attackers involved in this incident" the OC added.
