Prime Minister Tarique Rahman toured the newly inaugurated July Mass Uprising Memorial Museum at Ganobhaban on Thursday, accompanied by former interim Chief Adviser Prof. Muhammad Yunus.
The museum, which officially opens to the public today, chronicles the 2024 student-led revolution and the preceding 16 years of authoritarian rule under former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
Following a formal plaque unveiling, Prime Minister explored exhibits spread across the transformed grounds of Ganobhaban Hasina's former official residence. The displays feature poignant personal belongings of the uprising's martyrs, blood-stained clothing and letters. Audio-visual exhibits document state-sponsored repression, enforced disappearances and historic footage of Hasina fleeing the country on August 5, 2024.
The historic venue was repurposed into a memorial by the Yunus-led interim government to preserve the legacy of the pro-democracy movement. Senior officials including Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Cultural Affairs Minister Nitai Roy Chowdhury and the Prime Minister’s daughter Barrister Zaima Rahman also joined the visit. The visit concluded with a special memorial discussion honoring the sacrifices of the July fighters and their families.
Public Access and Ticketing
To manage expected large crowds, authorities have implemented a time-slotted online booking system for visitors. Entry fees are set at Tk 50 for adults and Tk 25 for children. Applicants will be notified of their allotted visiting times in advance through the official online portal.
