Mohamed Salah Set to Join Turkish Club Trabzonspor After Liverpool Exit

Mohamed Salah is set to join Turkish side Trabzonspor on a two-year contract following his dramatic departure from Liverpool. The club confirmed on Tuesday that the 34-year-old Egyptian forward will fly into Istanbul on Wednesday before heading to Trabzon for an official welcome ceremony.

Salah a free agent this summer with reportedly turned down lucrative offers from MLS, Saudi Arabia and rival Turkish club Besiktas. He now joins a Trabzonspor squad that finished third in the Turkish Super Lig last season and is gearing up for the UEFA Europa League.

The move marks the end of an era for Salah at Anfield. Over nine historic seasons and he cemented his legacy as a Liverpool great with scoring 257 goals in 442 appearances and lifting every major trophy including the Premier League and Champions League.

However, his final season on Merseyside was marred by controversy. Despite signing a contract extension in April 2025 shortly after leading Liverpool to a record-tying 20th league title Salah’s form eventually dipped. A public fallout with manager Arne Slot culminated in an explosive interview where Salah accused the club of throwing him "under the bus." He was subsequently dropped from the squad for several crucial matches.

While he was reintegrated after returning from the Africa Cup of Nations, the four-time Premier League Golden Boot winner struggled to recapture his peak form.

Most recently, the former Chelsea and Roma star represented Egypt at this summer's World Cup and guiding his nation to the Round of 16 before a defeat to Argentina. Now, Salah looks to rebuild his momentum and bring his world-class pedigree to Turkish football.
