Police have submitted a charge sheet in just 11 working days for the sensational rape and murder of a five-year-old girl, Jannatul Mawa, in Narail.
Investigating Officer and Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ajay Kundu submitted the charge sheet against the sole accused, Rabiul Sikder Robi, before the Narail Cognizance Court on Tuesday.
According to police, on the afternoon of July 20, Rabiul lured the child into his home in Ramchandrapur village, where he brutally raped and strangled her. The following day, the victim’s father, Mofizur Rahman, filed a murder case with the Narail Sadar Police Station.
The gruesome murder sparked massive outrage across the district. Enraged locals apprehended Rabiul, a mason by profession, in the Dattapara area on the morning of July 21 and handed him over to the police. Thousands subsequently took to the streets, organizing human chains and road blockades to demand capital punishment.
Investigating Officer Kundu stated that prioritizing the gravity of the crime enabled the rapid conclusion of the investigation.
"Upon receiving the autopsy and DNA test reports, we finalized the necessary legal procedures and submitted the charge sheet within 11 working days. We hope this swift action ensures justice for the grieving family," he said.
