BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has called on the interim government to ensure the safety of all candidates ahead of the upcoming election. "I urge the interim government to take immediate steps to ensure the safety of all candidates and ensure that the election is completely free of violence," Fakhrul said during a discussion at the Jatiya Press Club this afternoon.

Referring to the shooting of Sharif Osman Hadi, spokesperson of Inqilab Moncho and a prospective independent candidate in the Dhaka-8 constituency, Fakhrul said, "We demand immediate arrest of the real culprits behind this shooting." Hadi was shot and critically injured in Dhaka's Paltan area this noon. The incident occurred between DR Tower and Baitus Salam Jame Mosque.
