BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has warned that Jamaat-e-Islami, which opposed Bangladesh’s 1971 Liberation War, poses a threat to the nation’s safety.
Speaking at an election street rally in Thakurgaon on Friday, Fakhrul, who is contesting from Thakurgaon-1, said, “During the Liberation War, Jamaat had pushed us to the brink of death and dishonoured our mothers and sisters.”
He described the BNP as a proven political force committed to the country’s independence and development. Fakhrul urged voters to choose the right party and warned against supporting “anti-liberation” forces.
He also criticized the use of religion for political gain, questioning claims by certain parties that voting for them guarantees a place in heaven. Fakhrul said such promises are misleading, emphasizing that the BNP focuses on real progress.
The BNP leader called on voters to support the party’s “sheaf of paddy” symbol in the upcoming general election. He also promised that a BNP government would provide free healthcare services to the people.
