Active monsoon conditions have pushed five major rivers above the danger level across Bangladesh, prompting authorities to advise Local Cautionary Signal No. 3 for all four maritime ports. According to the Flood Forecasting and Warning Centre (FFWC), water levels are currently rising at 79 of the 127 monitoring stations nationwide.
The Sangu River is flowing significantly high, recorded at 95 cm above the danger mark at the Bandarban point and 23 cm above at Dohazari. In Cox's Bazar, the Matamuhuri River has exceeded danger levels by 47 cm and 32 cm at Chiringa. Other critical river points include the Kushiyara, Manu, and Khowai, which are overflowing in Sunamganj, Sylhet, Moulvibazar, and Habiganj.
Heavy rainfall continues to drive the surge, with Chattogram recording the country's highest rainfall at 203mm over a 24-hour period. Meanwhile, Cherrapunji in Meghalaya recorded 109mm of rain, further contributing to the rising water levels in downstream basins. While levels are falling at 43 stations, the overall situation remains critical as the monsoon persists.
