The Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) has announced an increase in gold prices, less than 24 hours after a significant price cut. Effective from 10:00 AM on Friday (July 10), the price of high-quality 22-carat gold has been raised by Tk 2,216 per bhori (11.664 grams).
Consequently, a bhori of 22-carat gold will now retail at Tk 224,182, inclusive of Value Added Tax (VAT). According to a BAJUS press release issued on Friday morning, the upward adjustment was made in response to rising prices of pure gold in the local market. The association finalized the new pricing framework after reviewing the overall market situation.
BAJUS confirmed that the updated rates will apply to all jewelry establishments across the country until further notice. Under the consumer guidelines, retailers cannot charge VAT separately since it is already integrated into the final retail price of gold and silver ornaments. However, standard making charges will still apply based on individual jewelry designs. The association added that its existing policies regarding the purchase, exchange, and buyback of ornaments remain fully in effect.
