


Gazipur Deputy Commissioner (DC) and District Magistrate Md. Nurul Karim Bhuiyan has been promoted to the post of Joint Secretary. The Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification on Thursday (July 9), elevating 172 Deputy Secretaries to Joint Secretary in the public interest.
Following the announcement, festive celebrations erupted at the Gazipur district administration office. Senior district officials, Upazila Nirbahi Officers (UNOs), and leaders of various socio-cultural and professional organizations congratulated the newly promoted official with floral greetings.
A 25th batch BCS officer, Nurul Karim Bhuiyan assumed charge as Gazipur DC on March 16 this year. He quickly earned a reputation as an honest, efficient, and people-friendly administrator. He is widely appreciated for streamlining public services, increasing field-level accountability, and conducting surprise inspections to curb negligence.
Interestingly, Bhuiyan has a background in journalism. A former president of the Dhaka University Journalists Association (DUJA), he worked as a staff reporter for Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) from 2001 to 2006. He holds degrees in Mass Communication and Journalism from Dhaka University and pursued higher education at Minnesota State University, USA.
During his career, he has served as the UNO of Dohar, held roles in the Local Government Division and Home Ministry, and served as Director of the Payra Port Authority. After previously facing promotion delays, he was made Deputy Secretary in 2024 before becoming Gazipur DC. Citizens and colleagues in Gazipur have widely welcomed his latest promotion, viewing it as a well-deserved recognition of his dedication, integrity, and merit.
