The government has announced a major promotion in the civil administration, elevating 179 Deputy Secretaries to the rank of Joint Secretary. The promotions were made through two separate notifications issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Thursday.

This promotion round also includes officers from the 24th BCS (Administration) Cadre, who have now been promoted to the position of Joint Secretary. Several Deputy Commissioners (DCs) are also among those promoted.

Under the first notification, 172 Deputy Secretaries were promoted to Joint Secretary. A second notification promoted seven additional Deputy Secretaries serving in Bangladesh's embassies, high commissions, and other foreign missions. As a result, the total number of promoted officers now stands at 179.

This is considered the first major promotion in the public administration since the BNP-led government assumed office. The list of promotees includes several Deputy Commissioners and senior officials serving in key ministries and government departments.

Among the promoted officials is Md. Khairuzzaman (Batch No. 25757), a distinguished son of Magura and a 24th BCS (Administration) cadre officer.

He is currently serving as a Deputy Secretary at the Ministry of Industries. His promotion to the rank of Joint Secretary is widely regarded as recognition of his long-standing administrative experience, professional competence, and dedicated public service.

The news of his promotion has been welcomed with great pride and joy across Magura district. Local dignitaries have expressed hope that, in his new role, he will continue to make significant contributions to Bangladesh's industrial development, strengthen public administration, and further enhance the reputation of his home district.

Earlier in his career, Md. Khairuzzaman served with distinction as the Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Muksudpur Upazila in Gopalganj. During his tenure, he earned widespread appreciation for his integrity, efficient administration, and people-oriented leadership.

Congratulating him on his promotion, Md. Shiru Mia, President of the Muksudpur Press Club, conveyed his heartfelt greetings and best wishes in a congratulatory message. He expressed confidence that Md. Khairuzzaman would continue to serve the nation with the same dedication, professionalism, and efficiency in his new responsibilities as Joint Secretary.

According to the Ministry of Public Administration, separate orders will be issued in due course regarding the posting and assignment of the newly promoted Joint Secretaries.
