National University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ASM Amanullah has called for a model teaching system to elevate higher education quality across Bangladesh. Speaking at a workshop on Thursday, he stressed the urgent need to transition toward skill-based learning that aligns with contemporary job market demands.
"To make classroom teaching timely and engaging, our existing system must change," Dr. Amanullah said. "We must ensure students learn practical, market-driven skills to remain competitive. As a major stakeholder in the country’s education sector, National University must lead this transformation."
The Vice-Chancellor made these remarks as the chief guest at a day-long workshop titled 'Development of Outcome-Based Education (OBE) Curriculum', held at the university's Senate Hall in Gazipur. Organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), the event featured National University Pro-VC Professor Dr. Mohammad Ali Jinnah as the special guest, and Professor Dr. SM Hafizur Rahman from Dhaka University as the keynote speaker.
Highlighting global academic standards, Dr. Amanullah noted that modernizing higher education is crucial for building a developed Bangladesh capable of facing global challenges. "An OBE curriculum ensures students gain both theoretical knowledge and the workplace-appropriate skills and creativity needed for national and international labor markets," he added.
He emphasized that teachers will play a pivotal role in this transition, requiring regular training and adaptability to modern technology.
