Tornado Hits Sandwip Island: 25 Houses Damaged, No Casualties

A sudden tornado struck Sandwip, a coastal island upazila in Chittagong, damaging at least 25 houses and several shops on Thursday morning. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported.

The tornado hit the Adarshpara area in Magadhara Union around 11:30 AM. High-speed winds ripped off roofs, damaged structures, and triggered panic among local residents. Rainwater also flooded several homes, compounding the distress of the affected families.

Kausar Ahmed, a former local union parishad chairman, confirmed the damage, noting that a brick kiln he owns was also partially affected. He stated that the upazila administration has been informed to assess the losses and expedite emergency assistance for the victims. A one-minute video circulating on social media captured the intensity of the storm, showing roofs being blown away amidst the screams of terrified residents.
