Highlighting the theme "Climate Change: Today's Action, Tomorrow's Security," the district administration and the Department of Environment jointly organized a rally and discussion in Lakshmipur on Thursday morning to mark World Environment Day.
The day’s events began with a colorful rally that started from the Deputy Commissioner’s office, paraded through the town's main roads, and returned to the starting point. Students from local schools and colleges, alongside members of various social organizations, actively participated.
Following the rally, a discussion was held at the Deputy Commissioner’s conference room. Deputy Commissioner S. M. Mehedi Hasan attended as the chief guest, with Additional Deputy Commissioner Samrat Khisa presiding. Special guests included Civil Surgeon Dr. Abu Hasan Shaheen, Assistant Superintendent of Police Arup Chandra Pal, and Department of Environment Assistant Director Harun-or-Rashid Pathan.
Addressing the gathering, speakers warned that plastic waste poses a severe threat to both biodiversity and human health. They urged citizens to adopt eco-friendly lifestyles, reduce plastic consumption, and plant more trees to ensure sustainable development and long-term environmental security.
The program concluded with the distribution of tree saplings, books, and crests to the winners of an environmental awareness drawing competition.
