A 10-year-old boy died and his teenage cousin was injured after being bitten by a venomous snake while sleeping at their home in Porsha upazila of Naogaon.

The incident occurred on Wednesday night in Hatkholapara (Itapukur) village.

The deceased, Abdullah, 10, is the son of Abdul Ahad, a Saudi expatriate from Chapainawabganj Sadar. Abdullah had been living at his maternal grandfather’s house in Porsha. His cousin, Rahima Khatun, 14, daughter of Abdur Rahman, was also bitten during the incident.

According to the family, a snake entered the bedroom late at night and bit both children in their sleep. Relatives quickly rescued them and rushed them to the Porsha Upazila Health Complex.

Dr. Arif, the on-duty physician at the health complex, confirmed that Abdullah was brought in dead. "Rahima is physically stable but deeply traumatized by the event. She is receiving necessary treatment and remains under close medical observation. Antivenom will be administered if required," he stated.
