


Residents of 10 districts will now have access to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) services closer to home, as the government launches new ICU facilities under the Emergency Response and Pandemic Preparedness (ERPP) project.
Health and Family Welfare Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain is set to inaugurate the units on Sunday (June 14).
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the new ICUs are equipped with modern medical equipment and staffed with trained healthcare professionals. The initiative will enable critically ill adults and children to receive advanced treatment in their own districts, reducing the need to travel to Dhaka or other major cities.

Ministry officials said each ICU has been supplied with essential equipment, including pediatric ventilators and oxygen concentrators. Doctors, nurses and support staff have also been appointed to ensure smooth operations.
Officials believe the expansion of critical care services at the district level will improve healthcare access, strengthen emergency response capacity and enhance preparedness for future public health crises, including pandemics.
The ERPP project aims to strengthen Bangladesh’s health system by improving emergency response capabilities and disaster preparedness. Establishing ICU facilities in district hospitals is a key part of that effort.
