Over 200 residents from the Panchakaran and Putikhali unions formed a human chain on Saturday morning to protest against local drug syndicates.
Gathering at 11:00 a.m. under the slogan, "Build a drug-free society, fight drug dealers," the demonstrators demanded immediate intervention from the local administration.
Speakers at the protest accused a local man, Litu Sikder, and his associates of running a long-standing drug network that is pulling the area's youth into substance abuse. They urged law enforcement to arrest the accused immediately to protect the community.
Several local political leaders participated in and addressed the human chain. Notable attendees included Upazila BNP Vice President and former Chairman Maulana Abdul Khalek, Putikhali Union BNP General Secretary Khalilur Rahman Sikder, BNP leader Nantu Sikder, and Panchakaran Ward 1 Jamaat-e-Islami General Secretary Md. Shamsur Rahman, alongside other community members.
