A major fire broke out at a factory of Drug International Limited in Gazipur’s Tongi area on Wednesday morning also creating widespread panic and filling the surrounding area with thick smoke and chemical fumes.
The blaze originated at the company's Unit-2 four-storey building around 10:15 AM before spreading to an adjacent structure. Sixteen firefighting units from Tongi, Gazipur, Uttara and nearby stations rushed to the scene to extinguish the flames and bring the situation under control.
Fire Service officials reported intense heat, heavy smoke and strong chemical odors which made operations challenging. However the firefighters managed to prevent the blaze from spreading further.
No casualties have been reported so far. The cause of the fire and the total extent of financial damage remain unknown pending further investigation. Authorities confirmed that cooling operations are ongoing to fully neutralize hidden pockets of fire inside the building.
