A schoolboy abducted in Dhaka was rescued within an hour after his father rushed to the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) and sought help, police officials said.
After hearing the father’s plea, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman immediately instructed police to take swift action, according to the PMO press wing.
Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Ramna Division, told bdnews24.com that the victim is a ninth-grade student of National Ideal School.
The boy was abducted around 2:30pm after leaving school in the Khilgaon area. “Four to five men intercepted him and took him to an unfinished seven-storey building in Jorpukur,” Masud said.
The kidnappers assaulted the boy and demanded Tk 50,000 in ransom, threatening to kill him. They took the father’s phone number and contacted him shortly after.
Following the prime minister’s directive, police contacted the abductors while pretending to arrange the ransom payment. Once the location was confirmed, officers raided the building and rescued the boy safely.
Sensing police presence, the kidnappers fled the scene, police said. No arrests had been reported as of filing this report.
In a statement, the prime minister’s press wing said the head of government acted immediately upon receiving the information and instructed law enforcers to respond without delay.
