An Iranian military helicopter crashed into a fruit and vegetable market in Isfahan province on Tuesday, killing four people, state media reported.
The aircraft went down in the city of Dorcheh, sparking a fire that was quickly contained by emergency responders. Officials confirmed the fatalities include the pilot, co-pilot, and two traders working at the market.
Preliminary reports from the official IRNA news agency attribute the crash to a technical malfunction. The helicopter was reportedly conducting a training flight when the incident occurred.
Aviation experts frequently highlight Iran’s troubled air safety record. Much of the country's military and civil fleet consists of aging aircraft purchased before the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Decades of international sanctions have left Iran struggling to source the original spare parts essential for rigorous maintenance.
This tragedy marks the second major military aviation accident in Iran within a week. Last Thursday, a U.S.-made F-4 fighter jet crashed during a night training mission in western Hamadan province, killing one pilot.
