


The government has appointed Md. Ali Hossain Fakir as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP). The Ministry of Home Affairs announced the appointment in a notification issued on Tuesday, February 24.
Faisal Hasan, Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Home Affairs, confirmed the development.
Before this appointment, Ali Hossain Fakir served as the Additional IGP and Chief of the Armed Police Battalion (APBn). A member of the 15th BCS Police Cadre, he was reinstated to service following legal proceedings after the political transition on August 5, 2024.
His professional background includes serving as a Deputy Commissioner (DC) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police and participating in United Nations Peacekeeping Missions.
Fakir’s career has seen multiple administrative shifts. He was first dismissed in 1997 during the Awami League administration but was later reinstated through legal process under the subsequent government. Most recently, he was sent into compulsory retirement in 2022, only to be reinstated following the change of government in August 2024.
