In a major reshuffle within the Bangladesh Police, the government has sent 17 senior officers, including 16 Deputy Inspector Generals (DIGs), into forced retirement.
The Ministry of Home Affairs issued a notification on Sunday (May 3), signed by Senior Secretary Monzur Morshed Chowdhury. The order, issued by the President's authority, states that these officers from the BCS (Police) cadre have been retired in the "public interest" under Section 45 of the Government Service Act, 2018.
The retired officers include high-ranking officials such as Mofiz Uddin Ahmed (Anti-Terrorism Unit), Imtiaz Ahmed (Highway Police), Md. Habibur Rahman (CID), and Md Harun-or-Rashid (NSI). One Additional DIG, Farhat Ahmed of the Railway Police, was also included in the order.
While the move is a significant shake-up, the notification clarified that the retired officials will still receive their retirement benefits as per existing rules. This follows a similar move on April 22, when 13 other senior police officials were also sent into forced retirement.
