December marks the month of Victory, commemorating the birth of Bangladesh as an independent nation in 1971, following the surrender of Pakistani occupation forces after a nine-month conflict, and it begins today (1 December).
Different sociocultural, political, and professional organizations and institutions will honor this month with various programs.
On 14 December, the country will observe Martyred Intellectuals Day to remember the intellectuals who were systematically murdered by the Pakistani occupation forces and their local collaborators towards the end of the Liberation War in 1971.
On this day in 1971, many of the nation’s distinguished academicians, doctors, engineers, journalists, artists, teachers, and other notable figures were forcibly taken from their homes, blindfolded, and transported to unknown locations where they were brutally tortured and killed. Their remains were subsequently discarded at Rayerbazar, Mirpur, and other execution sites in the capital.
On 16 December, the nation will celebrate Victory Day, which signifies the establishment of the country, achieved through the ultimate sacrifice of martyrs and the dignity of mothers and sisters, with a series of events.
Numerous activities will be organized to pay profound tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the nation during the Liberation War in 1971.
