Police have seized 9 of the motorcycles looted during the BNP-Jamaat clash in Ishwardi, Pabna.

These motorcycles were seized from the bamboo grove and forest near the house of Makkel Mridha, convener of the Sahapur Union Krishak Dal in the upazila, on Saturday (November 29) afternoon.

Makkel Mridha is a follower of BNP nominated candidate for Pabna-4 constituency and district BNP convener Habibur Rahman Habib.

Members of Pabna DB Police, Ishwardi Police Station, Pakshi and Rooppur Police Outposts participated in the operation.

Confirming the seizure of the motorcycles, Additional Superintendent of Police of Ishwardi Circle Pranab Kumar Sarkar said that the motorcycles were seized in a drive based on a secret tip-off. Later, they were submitted to Ishwardi Police Station.

Pakshi Police Outpost In-charge ABM Monirul Islam said that the motorcycles were found near the house of Makkel Mridha, the convener of the Sahapur Union Krishak Dal and the main accused in the case filed by Jamaat. He added, “Efforts are ongoing to recover the remaining motorcycles.”

Last Thursday (November 27) afternoon, Jamaat-nominated candidate for Pabna-4 constituency and district Jamaat Ameer Abu Taleb Mandal went to Chargargari village of Sahapur Union for election campaigning.

At that time, local BNP leaders and activists supported by Habibur Rahman Habib, led by Makkel Mridha, convener of the Union Krishak Dal, attacked Jamaat leaders and activists over an earlier fight. When Jamaat leaders and activists tried to stop them, a clash broke out. More than fifty leaders and activists from both sides were injured in this.

Jamaat claimed that during the attack, 10 motorcycles were set on fire and about 40 motorcycles were looted by BNP activists.

Ishwardi Upazila Jamaat Ameer Dr. Nuruzzaman Pramanik said, “We have not yet recovered many motorcycles. He demanded that the administration take an effective role in recovering the remaining ones quickly.”
