Setting aside their differences, two leaders, KM Anwarul Islam and Hasadul Islam Hira, who were not nominated for the Pabna-3 constituency, shared a stage to declare a united movement advocating for a local candidate.
This announcement was made during a press conference held at Anwarul Islam's home in Pathanpara Mohalla of Chatmohar Municipality Sadar, Pabna on Thursday afternoon, November 06.
At the press conference, former MP and ex-president of Chatmohar Upazila BNP, KM Anwarul Islam stated, "We are committed to executing the 31 points. We aim to celebrate on November 7. Our goal is to collaborate with you to foster peace in the nation. We wish to progress alongside individuals from all sectors, including BNP leaders and activists from Chatmohar, Bhangura, and Faridpur. I encourage you to unite at Baluchar ground on November 8.
Former member secretary of Chatmohar Upazila BNP, Hasadul Islam Hira remarked, Anwar Chacha and I have joined forces to organize this initiative. On Friday, November 7, all businesses in Chatmohar were closed, prompting us to reschedule the event for the following day, November 8. We appeal to the citizens of Chatmohar, Bhangura, and Faridpur to show solidarity with this initiative. Our aim is to ensure that our future is brighter, that we can achieve our goals effectively, and that we can bring joy to the residents of Chatmohar, Bhangura, and Faridpur. For this, we seek your blessings. We trust that you will support us by attending the Baluchar field in person. We will announce our subsequent plans during the rally. In response to journalists' inquiries, Hira stated, "We want to see this through to the end; we are eager to witness the final nomination. After that, we will update you on our next steps by organizing a press conference. Our movement is aimed at benefiting the residents of Chatmohar, Bhangura, and Faridpur. We have a singular demand: we seek a local candidate for the Pabna-3 constituency. Our movement will persist until the final nomination is revealed. We are hopeful that the party's high command will reach a conclusive decision after evaluating the overall circumstances.
Leaders and activists from the upazila and municipal BNP, along with affiliated organizations, attended the press conference.
Interestingly, the BNP's potential party nomination for the Pabna-3 constituency has been awarded to Hasan Jafir Tuhin, the president of the Central Krishak Dal and an agriculturist. He resides in the Sujanagar upazila of Pabna. Following his candidacy announcement approximately three months ago, he has registered as a voter in Chatmohar. Since then, other candidates vying for nomination, including various party leaders and activists, have been vocal in their demand for a local candidate.
It is important to highlight that there has been a longstanding division within the Chatmohar Upazila BNP. Former MP KM Anwarul Islam and former municipal mayor and upazila chairman Hasadul Islam Hira have been independently conducting party activities with their respective supporters. Both have sought the nomination for the Pabna-3 constituency. Tensions are escalating in the Pabna-3 constituency as the two have initiated a joint movement in light of the division. A new polarization is emerging. It remains to be seen what the final outcome will be.
