


The government is heavily prioritizing sports to fulfill its promise of building a drug-free Bangladesh according to Abul Khair Bhuiyan, Member of Parliament for Laxmipur-2.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the Shaheed Zia Memorial Football Tournament in Raipur, Laxmipur on Friday afternoon MP Bhuiyan emphasized the crucial role of the youth in combating drug addiction.
"The government, under the leadership of Tarique Rahman, has taken groundbreaking steps to engage our youth. This includes integrating sports into the educational syllabus and expanding athletic facilities" Bhuiyan stated. He highlighted grassroots initiatives designed to discover new talent and keep teenagers actively engaged.
"This state is ours. To protect the sovereignty of this country, we must all play our part in preventing the cancer of drugs that has threatened our society," he added.
Organized by the Raipur Upazila Sports Association, the tournament features 12 teams competing at the Government Merchants Academy ground.
The inaugural event was chaired by Raipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mehedi Hasan Kausar and moderated by Sports Association member Shahriar Faisal. Special guests included Raipur Police Station Officer-in-Charge Nizam Uddin Bhuiyan, Upazila BNP President ZM Nazmul Islam Mithu, General Secretary Shafiqur Rahman Bhuiyan, and other local political leaders and sports organizers.
