A 90-year-old former professor Mostafizur Rahman held a press conference at the Bhola Press Club on Friday evening, accusing his daughter Julia Rahman Banya of severe harassment, physical abuse and filing false legal cases to seize his property.

During the briefing, Rahman’s younger son Rezbah Uddin Swapan read a written statement detailing years of alleged abuse. Rahman claimed Julia assaulted him and his third wife in 2011 looted their valuables and illegally occupied his home with the help of local thugs. For his safety Mr. Mostafizur Rahman legally transferred his property to his other children and wife and relocated to Dhaka. He further alleged that just 20 days ago Julia attempted to abduct him in Dhaka an incident thwarted only after he called the 999 national emergency hotline.

Following Friday’s press conference a confrontation erupted when Julia arrived at the venue and allegedly attempted to force her father to leave with her leading to a heated public dispute with her stepbrothers.

Rahman, who is physically frail and unable to walk unaided, has appealed to the administration to help him reclaim his home and drop the alleged false cases. Over 100 local community leaders previously petitioned the Superintendent of Police supporting his claims.

In response Julia Rahman vehemently denied the accusations. She alleged that her father abandoned her 70-year-old mother 20 years ago without financial support a matter a court recently ruled on in her mother's favor. Julia claims her stepbrothers had kept her father hidden in Dhaka for years to deliberately orchestrate these false allegations against her.
