A five-member investigation committee has been established at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) to assess the educational credentials and work experience of officials and staff in light of allegations concerning irregularities in the current promotion process.

As per an office order signed by Professor Dr. Md. Ektiar Uddin, Acting Registrar of PSTU, and sanctioned by the Vice-Chancellor on October 26 (Sunday), the committee has been formed to review the academic qualifications, duration of service, and authenticity of certificates in accordance with the university’s regulations.

Professor Dr. Mahbub Rabbani from the Department of Horticulture has been designated as the convener of the committee. The other members include Professor Dr. Mohammad Atikur Rahman (Department of Entomology), Professor Dr. Md. Sujahangir Kabir Sarkar (Department of Economics and Sociology), Professor Dr. Md. Abu Yusuf (Department of Agronomy), and Dr. Mirajul Islam, Deputy Registrar of the Council Affairs Section, who will act as the member secretary.

The order further indicated that the committee is required to present its report within 15 working days.

It has come to light that the university administration initiated this action following reports of alleged irregularities in the promotion process that were published in various national newspapers, including The Daily Campus, on October 25, as reported by the PSTU Journalists’ Association.

In relation to the inquiry, Dr. Mirajul Islam, the member secretary of the investigation committee, stated: “We have just commenced the investigation. We have already conducted one meeting to deliberate on the issue and have resolved to carry out the verification directly at the board level rather than through online methods. Additionally, we will meticulously verify and examine the authenticity of each certificate.
