Students of Bijoy 24 Hall at Patuakhali Science and Technology University (PSTU) locked the provost’s office on Monday afternoon, protesting delays in room allocation.
The protest began around 5:00pm on January 26 and was led by students from the 2023–24 academic session. They said they have been living in the hall’s common room due to the lack of allocated rooms.
According to the students, the hall administration assured them in July 2025 that separate rooms would be arranged. However, they claim the promise has not been fulfilled, forcing them to stay in shared spaces for nearly one and a half years of their four-year academic programme. They said the situation has disrupted their studies and daily life.
Bijoy 24 Hall Provost Dr Masudur Rahman, Assistant Provost Md Faisal, and Md Motasim were present during the protest.
Dr Masudur Rahman said the hall administration has been working to address the accommodation shortage from the outset. He added that two rooms were allocated on the same day and expressed hope that rooms for the remaining students would be arranged by next Sunday.
Following the assurance, the students unlocked the office and called off the protest.
The demonstration was limited to the issue of room allocation, and no other demands were raised.
