A fifth-grade madrasa student was allegedly tied to a tree, brutally beaten and injected with an unknown drug to force a confession regarding a residential theft in Laxmipur Sadar Upazila.
The victim, 10-year-old Zahid is a student at Jamiatul Abrah Hefs Madrasa and the son of a local day laborer. Following his forced confession, police registered a burglary case against three other local youths, naming the traumatized child as the primary witness.
On Sunday afternoon, Zahid’s mother, Zahera Begum, sought shelter at a local media office, weeping as she demanded a fair investigation and justice for her son.
According to family and local sources, a burglary took place at the residence of a woman named Sayera Begum in Char Ruhita Union on the night of May 23. Zahid, who had run away from his madrasa that day, was wandering the streets late at night out of fear of returning home. Local residents, led by Sayera's father, Momin Ullah, intercepted the boy, tied him to a tree, and accused him of the crime.
"They beat me brutally and pushed an injection into my left arm," Zahid said, adding that he lost full consciousness and normal memory. Under extreme physical coercion, the child named three local day laborers Saddam, Jewel, and Hridoy as his accomplices.
The next day, Momin Ullah filed a formal case with the Sadar Model Police Station based on the boy's statements. The three accused youths have since gone into hiding. Saddam’s family has vehemently denied the allegations, claiming he was falsely implicated.
When questioned, the plaintiff, Momin Ullah, maintained that the theft was premeditated and left his daughter injured, defending his decision to file the lawsuit.
Laxmipur Sadar Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Wahid Parvez confirmed that a case has been registered. "The matter is currently under investigation, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on our findings," the OC stated.
