The Laxmipur District Jail authorities implemented a series of special initiatives to share the spirit of Eid-ul-Azha with inmates, focusing on festive meals and extended family contact.
The day began at 7:45 AM with an Eid congregation held inside the prison premises, where inmates, prison officers, and staff prayed together.
Following the prayers, the prison authority served a specially curated festive menu throughout the day to ensure inmates could experience the holiday traditions: Breakfast: Payesh (sweet rice pudding) and muri (puffed rice).
Lunch: Polao, beef, mutton, chicken roast, salad, sweets, betel leaf, and soft drinks.
Dinner: Rui fish curry, potato mash (aloobhorta), and plain rice.
Beyond the festive meals, the jail administration relaxed several regulations to help inmates connect with their families during the festival. The temporary privileges included: An exclusive day for in-person family meetings.
Permission to receive and consume home-cooked food brought by relatives.
An extended five-minute mobile phone call window to speak with family members.
Furthermore, citizens visiting the prison during the Eid holidays were welcomed with flowers and drinking water, while children accompanying them were given sweets and chocolates.
Laxmipur District Jail Superintendent Ritesh Chakma stated that the initiatives were designed to uplift the mental well-being of the inmates. "These arrangements were made to share the joy of Eid with the prisoners and to maintain a humane, compassionate environment within the facility," Chakma said.
