A night guard was killed in Chattogram early today after a freight train carrying 31 containers collided with a truck at the Sagorika level crossing around 4:00 am. The deceased was identified as 60-year-old Samsul Haque.
The collision caused the train's engine and one wagon to derail and overturn, along with the truck. Initial reports suggest the truck was speeding when it drove onto the tracks and completely damaged the crossing barrier.
Following the accident, the movement of freight trains from Chattogram to other parts of the country has been suspended. However, passenger train operations remain normal as the affected line is used only for freight services.
A four-member inquiry committee has been formed to investigate the incident, and a relief train has been dispatched for recovery efforts.
