The Tripura Kalyan Sangsad organized a vibrant procession and traditional Garaya dance in Ramgarh on Saturday (April 11) to welcome the Tripura New Year and bid farewell to the old year.
The "Baisu" rally, organized by the regional committee, commenced at the Victory Statue on the banks of Ramgarh Lake. The procession traveled through the town's main roads and the upper market before concluding back at the starting point.
Key participants included Ramgarh Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Kazi Shamim, Upazila BNP President Jasim Uddin, Municipal BNP President Bahar Uddin, and Upazila BNP General Secretary Safayet Morshed Bhuiyan. Leaders from the Tripura Kalyan Sangsad and the Tripura Student Forum also joined the festivities.
From early morning, people of all ages—from children to the elderly—gathered in traditional attire to preserve and showcase their cultural heritage. The event featured the iconic Garaya dance and bottle dance, which are central to the Tripura community's identity.
Hari Sadhan Tripura, President of the Tripura Kalyan Sangsad Ramgarh Regional Committee, explained that Baisu is celebrated over three days.
Day 1 Hari Baisu (The penultimacy of Chaitra), Day 2: Baisuma (The final day of Chaitra), Day 3: Bisikatal (The first day of Baishakh)
The Garaya dance remains the festival's main attraction, with groups visiting different neighborhoods to perform and spread a message of harmony. As the Bengali year 1436 begins, a festive atmosphere of unity and joy has swept through the hills of Ramgarh.
