Police seized 400 liters of illegally stored diesel and octane during a raid in Kalia Upazila, Narail, on Friday night. A mobile court fined one individual Tk 5,000 in connection with the incident.
Acting on a tip-off, SI Abdullah Al Mamun of Kalia Police Station discovered that Pavel Sheikh of Nawagram had stockpiled 200 liters of diesel and 200 liters of octane in his home, allegedly intending to sell them at inflated prices.
Upon notification, Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Md. Jinnatul Islam arrived at the scene. Following a summary trial, he fined Pavel Sheikh Tk 5,000 after the allegations were proven.
The seized fuel has been handed over to a local petrol pump to be sold at the government-fixed rate. On Saturday morning, UNO Jinnatul Islam confirmed that the proceeds from the sale would be deposited into the government treasury, adding that drives against illegal stockpiling will continue.
