Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced that Pakistan will mediate high-level peace talks between the United States and Iran, describing the diplomatic breakthrough as a "proud moment" for the nation and the Muslim world.
In a televised address, the Prime Minister confirmed that both nations accepted his proposal for a temporary ceasefire and agreed to send delegations to Islamabad for formal negotiations.
"At this sensitive juncture, Pakistani leadership has successfully convinced Tehran and Washington to pursue a ceasefire through cautious and confident diplomacy," Sharif stated.
The Prime Minister credited the breakthrough to the "round-the-clock" efforts of Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as well as Chief of Defense Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir. He noted that while the temporary ceasefire is a significant turning point, the road to permanent peace remains a difficult challenge.
The delegations are scheduled to meet today, April 11, 2026, at the Serena Hotel in Islamabad. The Iranian delegation, led by Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, has already arrived in the capital. The group also includes Iran’s Central Bank Governor and members of the Defense Council.
