In a powerful return to social media after a brief hiatus, Pakistani superstar Hania Aamir has addressed the growing culture of online bullying and the systematic pitting of women against one another.
Following weeks of silence amid mounting controversies the actor shared a candid video reflecting on the mental exhaustion caused by persistent digital scrutiny.
Aamir, known for her vibrant and carefree personality, noted that the backlash she faces often stems from a societal discomfort with women who are "happy and unapologetic." She argued that modern social media criticism is simply a digital evolution of the traditional "Log Kya Kahenge" (What will people say?) mindset.
"The conversation is the same we’re still calling women 'black, fair, fat, thin' only the font has changed," she remarked and highlighting how platforms like Instagram have amplified age-old prejudices through the voices of strangers.
The actor specifically targeted the trend of "this or that" comparison posts that frequently feature female celebrities. She questioned why such comparisons are almost exclusively reserved for women.
Aamir pointed out that men are rarely pitted against each other in the same aggressive manner. She urged women to reflect on why they might feel triggered by another woman’s success or her refusal to conform to traditional expectations.
The actor’s comments follow a recent wave of criticism regarding her Eid-ul-Fitr attire. Aamir shared photos wearing a white and red sari with minimal makeup, which led some netizens to label the outfit as "Indian" or "Hindi" attire.
This sparked a heated debate regarding cultural expression and the right of women to make personal style choices without facing nationalist or religious scrutiny.
Concluding her message Aamir made a broader appeal against "gaslighting" and online bullying. She encouraged fans to allow individuals to exist as they are, asking a poignant final question: "What is so triggering about women just being?"
