


S.M. Anwaruzzaman, a distinguished educationist, veteran freedom fighter, and prominent figure in Narail’s academic history, was buried with full state honors on Thursday. He was 91.
Anwaruzzaman, a resident of Lohagara Collegepara, passed away at 11:30 PM on Wednesday (April 8) while undergoing treatment at Kurmitola General Hospital in Dhaka. He had been battling age-related complications for some time.
The first funeral prayer (Janaza) and state tribute took place at 2:00 PM on Thursday at the Lohagara Government Pilot High School premises. Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) and Executive Magistrate Shammi Kaiser led the state salute. A police contingent from Narail Lines, commanded by SI Kamrul Islam, provided the guard of honor, followed by a minute of silence in his memory.
Wreaths were placed on his casket, draped in the national flag, by representatives from Lohagara Government Adarsh College, Lohagara Government Pilot High School, and the Lohagara Muktijoddha Sangsad.
The ceremony was attended by a wide cross-section of society, including Educationists Professor Md. Rehbar Daraz (Principal, Lohagara Government Adarsh College) and SM Hayatuzzaman (Headmaster, Lohagara Government Pilot High School).
Political Leaders Dr. Fariduzzaman Farhad (Central BNP), Md. Monirul Islam, Md. Tipu Sultan, and leaders from the local BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami.
Community Fellow freedom fighters, journalists, and local dignitaries.
S.M. Anwaruzzaman left a lasting legacy as the former headmaster of Lohagara Government Pilot High School and former principal of Lohagara Government Adarsh College. He was a key organizer during the 1971 Liberation War. He is survived by a son, three daughters, and countless students and admirers.
He was laid to eternal rest at the Lohagara Bazar Cemetery.
