Police recovered multiple firearms and ammunition following a shootout with suspected terrorist Mobarak Hossain, alias Kala Mobarak in the Shah Pallanpara area of Lelang, Fatikchhari, Chattogram on Wednesday morning.
Mobarak, 37, a resident of Manikpur in Kanchannagar, is described by police as a close associate and lead shooter for top criminals David Emon and Raihan. He faces multiple case allegations, including charges linked to associates in Fatikchhari, Raozan and Nagar areas.
According to Chattogram District Police, officers acted on CCTV footage and intelligence information pointing to Mobarak's involvement in a drug case in Pahartali. When police approached his hideout Mobarak and his associates allegedly opened fire prompting police to fire back in self-defense.
Following the exchange, police arrested Mobarak along with three others Mohammad Raihan (40), Md. Farid (50) and Md. Nachir (52).
Officers recovered a 9mm foreign pistol, a 7.65mm foreign pistol, a foreign revolver and a locally made pistol, along with 18 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 7 rounds for the 7.65mm pistol, five magazines and several shotgun shells.
Police said preliminary investigation suggests the 9mm pistol may have been looted from the Kotwali unit of Chattogram Metropolitan Police efforts are underway to confirm this.
Superintendent of Police Masud Alam said the force remains committed to cracking down on terrorism, extortion and organized crime. "The more violent the criminal more forcefully the law will act against them" he said.
