Two leaders of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party are undergoing treatment at the Lakshmipur District Sadar Hospital after being attacked for protesting the overpricing of fuel in the Dalal Bazar area of Sadar Upazila.

The victims are Emdadul Haque Emon, Joint Convener of Dalal Bazar Degree College JCD, and Al-Amin Hossain Rudra, Member Secretary of Uttar Hamchadi Union JCD.

According to the injured, the incident began around 11:00 AM on Wednesday when Emon went to purchase petrol at a local shop owned by one Tofail Ahmed. Emon alleged that the shop was charging 130–140 BDT per liter, significantly higher than the government-set price of 116 BDT.

An argument ensued, during which Tofail’s son, Jihad, along with several followers, allegedly assaulted Emon. When Rudra arrived at the scene to rescue him, he was also beaten, and two motorcycles belonging to the JCD leaders were reportedly vandalized.

Md. Mizanur Rahman Mizan, Member Secretary of Sadar Upazila (West) JCD, condemned the attack, stating, "Emon was targeted simply for protesting illegal price hikes. We demand immediate legal action and a fair trial."

However, the accused, Jihad, denied the allegations of assault. "We are selling fuel according to regulations. Emon arrived and created a disturbance while others were waiting in line. I am unaware if the public reacted to his behavior," he claimed.

Dalal Bazar Union Parishad Chairman Md. Nazrul Islam confirmed that he sent village police to rescue a youth who had taken shelter in a nearby house during a chase.

Jhalak Mohant, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Sadar Police Station, stated that the police have not yet received a formal written complaint regarding the incident.
