Residents of Jagjibanpur village in Sunamganj Sadar organized a human chain on Wednesday to protest a social media report they claim is fabricated. The protest took place at 5:00 PM near the village passenger shed .
The protesters addressed a recent Facebook report alleging that three local youths—Mahbub, Sajib, and Alam—attacked a man named Dulal with a firearm on Tuesday night. Speakers at the rally, including local elders Hannan Mia and Harish Uddin, dismissed the report as "motivated and false."
They provided alibis for the accused, Mahbub Reportedly in a Sylhet hospital for his mother’s surgery. Sajib Claimed to be in Dhaka at the time. Alam Stated he was at his place of business.
Local residents living near the alleged crime scene expressed skepticism. Tofail Ahmed, whose home is only 15 feet from the shed, stated he heard no disturbance on Tuesday night. Another local, Lahim Ahmed, claimed he was at the shed from 8:00 PM to 1:00 AM and witnessed no such altercation.
The complainant, Dulal Mia, maintains his allegations are true, stating that "no criminal will ever admit to their crime." Efforts to reach the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Sunamganj Sadar Police Station for an official comment were unsuccessful as he did not answer several phone calls.
The protesters urged journalists to verify facts before publication, reminding them of their responsibility to remain objective "mirrors of the nation."
