Altaf Hossain, accused in multiple cases including attempted murder, arrested in Nageshwari

Police have arrested Altaf Hossain (45), accused in multiple cases including attempted murder, in Nageshwari, Kurigram. He was arrested in a raid early Tuesday (February 17) based on a secret information.

The arrested Altaf Hossain is the son of Shajahan Ali of Jhamuatari village in Nageshwari upazila. According to police and local sources, Altaf Hossain is the number 1 accused in the attempt to murder of Nasrin Jahan Bilkis. Law enforcement agencies claim that there are multiple cases against Altaf for his involvement in drug trafficking and terrorist activities. It is alleged that he has been leading an influential gang and running a drug syndicate in the area for a long time.

Locals allege that Altaf Hossain has served several prison terms for his involvement in various criminal activities. He is still exerting influence in the area and is still committing various criminal activities including drug trafficking, land grabbing, illegal sand mining, and harassing helpless people in various ways. Many people also expressed anger that no one can speak against him.

The arrested Altaf Hossain was sent to jail from Nageshwari Police Station at noon, confirmed Abdullahil Zaman, officer-in-charge of the police station.
