


The bodies of eight Bangladeshi expatriates from Chattogram, who were killed in a tragic road accident in Oman, have been brought back to Bangladesh.
A Bangladesh Biman flight carrying the bodies arrived at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram around 11:00 p.m. on Saturday (October 18). The airport was filled with grief as relatives broke down in tears while receiving the remains.
The bodies were later handed over to family members, with seven taken to Sitakunda’s Kumira ferry terminal and then transported to Sandwip on Sunday morning for burial.
The deceased were identified as Amin Majhi, Md. Arju, Md. Rocky, Shahab Uddin, and Md. Babul of Sarikaite, Md. Jewel of Maitbhanga, Md. Roni of Rahmatpur, and Yusuf’s son from Chikdair, Raozan.
According to Engr. Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil, Public Relations Officer at Shah Amanat Airport, all formalities were completed before the bodies were handed over.
Sandwip Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mongchingnu Marma said that a mass funeral prayer would be held at East Sandwip Multipurpose High School ground at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, followed by burials in their respective villages.
The accident occurred on October 8 around 4:00 p.m. in Duqm Sidda area of Oman, when a fish-laden truck collided with a vehicle carrying the expatriates, killing eight people, including seven from Sandwip.
Families of the victims have expressed gratitude to the Bangladesh Embassy in Oman, the ambassador, and the Omani authorities for facilitating the swift repatriation of the bodies.
