Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defense Force Director General Major General Abdul Motaleb Sajjad Mahmud said that all VDP members are being brought under modern digital database AVMIS. Through this, it is possible to ensure transparency and deploy only trained and qualified members in important responsibilities. At the same time, the organizational structure of VDP has been further strengthened with physically able, educated and patriotic youth through modern training modules.
He said these things while speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration ceremony of the 50th founding anniversary of the Village Defense Force (VDP) at the Ansar and VDP Academy in Safipur, Gazipur on Monday (December 5).
The day was celebrated with the release of pigeons, a symbol of peace, cake cutting and a colorful rally.
The Director General said, “The journey that began with the noble goal of maintaining peace and order in villages and cities and strengthening social security has today turned into a huge volunteer family of about 6 million members.
“Volunteer VDP members truly represent the grassroots level security structure of the country. They are performing their duties with dedication and courage in various social awareness activities including law enforcement assistance, suppression of social crimes, prevention of child marriage and drug abuse, women empowerment, national and local elections, security of puja mandap and religious establishments, disaster management and rescue work and emergency humanitarian assistance. The much-awaited ‘Sanjivan’ project has already been launched on a trial basis in 12 upazilas of 12 districts of the country. He expressed strong optimism that this project, as a planned and sustainable economic security framework, will pave the way for positive changes across the country.
It is worth noting that on this day in 1976, the glorious journey of the VDP began with the great goal of maintaining peace and order and strengthening social security at the village and urban levels. The Additional Director General, Deputy Directors General of the force, along with officers and employees of various levels and a large number of VDP members were present at this festive event.
